easy to thread Review by vickivail

The best thing about this machine is how easy it is to thread. Threading the bobbin is as easy as dropping the bobbin in (I buy the premade ones) and pulling the thread through the guide. You do NOT have to struggle with pulling the bobbin thread up..

Prior to this, I had a low end Brother machine and hated to sew.
I'm really glad to have the Curvy. It sews nice and smooth. (Posted on 11/30/2015)

This machine wouldn't work right out of the box. Every time the needle raised back to the top, the machine stopped and all lights on the stitch patterns started flashing!! Because of being out of town I missed the return deadline for returns. With no warranty center near me, I had to ship it to Chicago and cost me $20 non-refundable. I think Singer should have at the least paid shipping both ways. So now, I will see how it works when it's returned. (Posted on 11/28/2015)

This machine stopped sewing after second time I used it.It would not pick up bobbin thread Singer said its out of timing. Due to no qualified repair place in my town I had to ship it off to be fixed. Had to pull out my 40 year old machine (not a singer) and it worked great. Poor quality. Wish I had not bought this machine. (Posted on 6/22/2015)

I bought this as new but returned and out of box and they told me the foot pedal wasn't working but they put a new one on and it worked. I took it home and it took many tries to get it to work so we took it back and they gave us the brand new version as an exchange and I love it. I got a small one for my birthday a while ago and it broke and I grew out of it. This has so many awesome functions and it comes with cool tools!! I'm taking a sewing class and learning how to sew better than I do now and I made a really cool zipper pouch already. This will last me a long time and I can make super awesome things. It is also very simple to thread and use. I hope to be able to sell the things I make so that I can make the money back that I spent on it. (Posted on 2/4/2015)

I love my Curvy 8763! Got it last Christmas from my wife and daughters and use it on an almost daily basis. I'm very creative and need to keep busy. I'm on disability and sewing is great therapy for my hands and mind. I'm a chef and I make my own Chefs jackets and got good enough to sell a few of them. This machine is easy and fun to use, especially the auto needle threader. I know I'm getting a SINGER serger this Christmas and I'm saving up for a SINGER embroidery machine. (Posted on 12/1/2014)

I received the curvy for my birthday and I literally fell in love. The machine has seriously changed my life! Instead of watching tv in my free time, I start up the wonderful singer and sew away the day. I hadn't sewn anything since middle school on a machine but when I set up the machine and threaded it, I was stunned at how simple it was, I didn't even needed the Manuel. I figured I would have to go to classes to figure it all out but I haven't went to any and I'd say I'm turning pro! I recommend this advanced machine to anyone! (Posted on 10/3/2014)

Been sewing for almost 40 years - Have sewn on the cheapest to the most expensive of machines. This is by far the worst machine I have ever used. Had to take it in for service after its second use! The top thread guide cuts the thread about every 12\ and you have to rethread. The machine doesn't wind the bobbin tight enough and multiple pieces of thread are picked up from the bobbin causing a huge tangled mess under the presser foot. The stitch options don't work. You have to change them and then turn the machine off for it to reset it etc. etc. etc. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!" (Posted on 6/20/2014)

The only reason I'm rating 4 stars is because the original Curvy 8763 I purchased did not stitch properly. I went for a sewing class and I couldn't stitch anything properly, so the teacher tried it and said I need a new one. Mind you it was only a few weeks old and barely used. So I got a brand new one and I've been stitching away! Everything works great, good instructions and good starter kit. (Posted on 6/17/2014)

I bought my Singer Curvy after sewing with my grandmother's 1918 White treadle machine for many years. I am very satisfied with its performance. It has opened up many possibilities for me that I did not have with my treadle. I am still learning how to use many of the Curvy's features. It is very easy to thread and use the bobbin and easy to operate. I am particularly pleased with the automatic threading feature. It was also an excellent value. The only difficulty that I have encountered has been in sewing thicker fabric pieces, but even this has not been particularly problematic. Overall, I am pleased with the Singer Curvy, and I am sure it will serve me well for a long time to come. (Posted on 5/24/2014)

Since buying my Singer Curvy 8763 I am sewing all the time. I am like a second time around beginner. I took sewing in school not good, I didn't do well, but still had the dream of picking it up again one day. That day arrived and value for price and opportunity made the timing right and I test drove the Singer Curvy 8763. I fell in love with it, it is easy to use. I love the swift smart threading system and the drop in bobbin as well as being able to change different stitches at the touch of a button. There's so much more I could say but, I will say I am really enjoying learning to sew with my machine. It has been like coming home to something that gives me sew much joy. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to sew. The machine is a joy to use and is a great value for the price.

The features are impressive. The durability is disappointing. I had it for three years now and it's broken for the second time. The needle hits the casing and breaks. The first fix cost half the price of the machine , a cam, I think, was out of whack. Now its doing the same thing again. Also the foot pedal is off and on working which is really exasperating. I used only for clothes, denim was the heaviest material. VERY disappointed. (Posted on 3/27/2014)

I thought I would love the machine - but after a week - there is an annoying beeping and then the sewing slows to a stop. Nothing works to get rid of the beep. I may return the machine and look for another brand. (Posted on 3/15/2014)

I LOVE this machine! After owning Singer machines all my life, I was hesitant to buy a new \plastic\" machine. I was afraid it wouldn't be as sturdy but I researched it and read review after review before I bought this machine. I was able to follow the directions in the manual to complete all the tasks-threading the machine and using the self-threading feature(my absolute favorite feature!) winding the bobbin and using the all the stitches. I have not tried the button holer yet but I can't wait to try it! The machine is so quiet and runs so smoothly! I also love the free arm feature. I can slide off part of the machine and inside the piece is a storage compartment! I was so excited to find all my accessories stored neatly in here. Overall I am very happy with my machine and can't wait to start sewing like a mad woman!! Oh one more thing the value was amazing. I bought the machine on sale for only $199 (the regular price was $299 and I saw it as high as $400!)." (Posted on 1/17/2014)
Handy features, but . . . . Review by 282172

Has some handy features and relatively simple to use. In the second month of ownership during the third use, the needle broke while sewing 3 layers of material together while making a comforter. I replaced the needle with one of the extra needles that were supplied with the machine according to the instructions, but the needle apparently doesn't go far enough up into the shaft that holds the needle in place after several tries by me and my husband. In the lowest sewing position, the needle strikes the plate underneath the bobbin holder. There is no Singer service center in my state and instead of boxing it up and paying to send it out of state for repair under the warranty, I have located a gentleman nearby who said he would take a look at it. Hoping this is just a one-time 'glitch' and that I will get lots of future good use out of it after it is repaired. (Posted on 12/28/2013)

I was so excited when I bought this. It has a good motor, not too noisy, sews relatively smoothly, and had features I liked. HOWEVER, I have several complaints about this machine.
1. The bobbin winder has not worked from day one.
2. When cleaning the needle plate, a metal notch on the back of it snapped off without me applying any more pressure than one would use in simply holding the thing.

I've had this machine for 3 months. I have contacted Singer 3 times over the last few months to correct the problem, but I do not have 2 hours at a time to wait on hold and hey havent responded to my emails. I thought this was supposed to be a good company with superior products, which is why I chose Singer in the first place. My experience has been extremely frustrating. I will likely never purchase a Singer product again. (Posted on 12/7/2013)

I don't sew much so all I was using was my grandmother's old machine that just goes forwards and has a knee pedal. But my daughters were becoming interested in sewing and my oldest started to take machine sewing classes at JoAnn's Fabrics and my grandmother's sewing machine wasn't so friendly. I did research online and then when there was a sale I went to JoAnn's in Northridge California to buy a machine. The sales woman was great and helped me buy the perfect user friendly machine. My 10-year old daughter watched the How-To DVD and then by herself loaded a bobbin, threaded the machine, and then used the self-threader. I was told it wasn't as hardy as some of the more expensive machines and wouldn't last as long as some, but it's VERY user friendly and perfect for the occasional user. In fact I volunteered at the school when the 5th graders had to make pillows for their chairs and some of the fabric was so thick that those parents with older more expensive machines were breaking needles right and left. But not me. It kept right on going... (Posted on 9/6/2013)

I really hate to give it a bad review because I have always had Singer Machines, but this one has not worked well for me at all. I have not been able to complete one sewing project since I got it as a gift last March. Something seems to always be wrong with the tension and it just sews gobs of thread on the underside of the fabric. I use the correct thd. and needles for the material I am using. I just tried to repair some jeans using a needle for that purpose with heavier thd. for denim and it was a disaster. The thd. all balled up down around the bobbin and I had to unscrew the plate to cut everything out. Any suggestions, I would really like to get to sewing some nice xmas gifts and things for myself and home. Thank you very much! (Posted on 11/27/2012)

I was very impressed by how simple it was to use and I really liked the features that were built into the machine. I liked the ease of use and the great value I feel I have got with this machine. I'm going to love sewing again. (Posted on 7/19/2012)

I have read all the reviews on this machine. I don't understand the problems listed. I have used my machine since last Christmas without a single problem. My last amchine was not a singer and this machine is a dream compared to it. I actually love sewing again. (Posted on 6/16/2012)

I am really enjoying using my new Singer Curvy. I have made my granddaughter a couple of dresses, bloomers and a hat. I think the decorative stiches are cute and fun to use. It is a great machine, and easy to use. (Posted on 4/3/2012)

Poor Sewing Quality Review by 117914

I have had my Curvy for 3 months now. I love the looks and the features of the machine but feel the quality of the stitches are lacking. It seems to skip a lot of stitches. I have notices the stitches ravel a lot even when back stitched. The stitches just do not seem to lock even when customizing the tension. I have tried using the auto feature for tension and it does not work to my satisfaction either. I have made approx 4 quilts in the time I have had the machine. Yesterday I wanted to work on the current one and the foot pedal does not work. It appears the actual socket on the machine the plug goes into is defective. All in all I am fairly disappointed in the quality of this SINGER product. (Posted on 1/2/2012)

I had decided with the tough economy I would make my Christmas presents. I began sewing back in July...I have completed 4 rag quilts, over 40 neck warmers, 100 's of coasters....the machine is a great buy for the price and lived up to my expectations....I love the ease of threading
and changing colors of thread, also the variety of stitches at a touch of a button! (Posted on 12/8/2011)
Back to sewing! Review by 108115

I haven't sewn anything for over 20 years...my children grew up and I gave away my grandmother's cabinet Singer. I wanted to get back into sewing for my grandchildren. The fancier, computerized sewing machines intimidated me, so I looked for something more familiar. I found the Curvy and couldn't be more pleased!
Pros: Easy to thread (great for my 'older' eyes), easy buttonhole tool, convenient CD tutorials, easy bobbin threading, good choices of basic embroidery stitches
Cons: Some frequently used parts feel flimsy rather than sturdy, needle threader doesn't always work the first time, the foot pedal moves around a lot and doesn't always respond quickly

Overall, I'm excited to get back to sewing and look forward to putting my new Curvy to a workout! (Posted on 12/5/2011)

I returned the Curvy 8763 one week after I bought it. The presser foot handle broke and I could not move the foot up or down. The motor sounded strained when sewing. Poor quality. (Posted on 9/26/2011)

I grew up sewing on my mom's old Singer machine and finally got my own. The Curvy is as smooth as butter and makes sewing so easy. It handles denim and thick materials no problem. Spinning the bobbin, threading the machine and needle and backstitching are so easy! The picture makes the machine look small but it is a very solid sturdy piece of machinery. I told my mom that even though her old Singer is still sewing along, she should treat herself to the Curvy. (Posted on 5/21/2011)

I got this machine for myself to start out with. I really like the machine but I have found one problem with this machine. The one problem I have had is that the needle threader does not work with any needles other than Universal Needles. I have been taking a quilting class and need to use Sharps, but those needles won't work with the needle threader. Other than that, I love this machine!!! (Posted on 5/17/2011)

It threads easily, sews a bit and then it loops. I thread it again, sews fine and begins to loop. I need to sew and not thread and re-thread the machine. The stitches are poor quality. The zigzag and the other decorative stitches just loop -- overall not a good reliable machine. (Posted on 11/24/2010)

I find this machine very difficult to operate.
It's supposed to be automatic threader, waste time trying to do this.
It WILL NOT do the satin stitch, which is one of the main reasons I bought it. (Posted on 10/17/2010)
